BLOGMAS DAY 12: The Christmas Tag 2016

For those of you who are unsure as to why I'm going "The Christmas Tag 2016: A Christmas Question & Answer" it is a series of questions that circulates various bloggers and vloggers websites and channels each year. Since NevNYC didn't exist this time last year I thought that I would do it during BLOGMAS!

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?

Okay so this is like choosing your favourite child for me. HOWEVER I will say that one film I avoid watching until just before Christmas Eve is "The Polar Express". How can you not feel incredibly overwhelmed and Christmassy after watching that movie?! A close second for me is "The Santa Clause" with Tim Allen. My sister and I used to obsess over the Christmas film!

2. Have you ever had a white Christmas?

You know I don't actually think I have! I know it has snowed lightly one Christmas maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I'm definitely feeling the need to stay somewhere cold for Christmas in the near future. However this December it has snowed a few times in New York which has just been an absolutely magical touch to the festive season! Although I would like to fly home on Saturday in a timely fashion so I am hoping it holds off fully until I am home!

3. Where do you usually spend your holidays?

Every year I am back at home in County Durham. The whole experience is just full of childhood nostalgia. I love being in Durham around the festive season as it is so beautiful. The riverbank walks, the Cathedral, the marketplace, EVERYTHING is wonderful. When I was younger and my Grandparents would visit from Portsmouth before they moved here we would spend Christmas Day at the County Hotel however now we are a bit older and all live so far apart, there is nothing like having everyone together at home.

4. What is your favourite Christmas song?

Much like the "favourite Christmas movie" question, this is like picking your favourite child. Everyone who knows me, knows I play my Christmas playlist from November 1st all the way through until the New Year. But picking my favourite I would have to say it is The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You) - Nat King Cole. I could listen to that song on repeat and everytime it comes on my playlist I want to get all snuggled up in front of the fire with a cup of peppermint hot chocolate GAH just so Christmassy!

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

In recent years my mum has given my sister, my Dad and I a set of Christmas pyjamas and the latest Christmas film and we all sit in the living room in our new pyjamas and watch it. So much fun! And just puts a cherry on top of the run up to Christmas Day. What has been fascinating to me is speaking to friends from around the world at school here in New York and hearing their Christmas Eve traditions. A lot of them including my friend Nico actually open all their gifts and do Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve! Love it!

6. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer off of the top of your head?

Uh oh! I don't think I can, lets see: Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Comet, Vixen, Donner, Cupid, Blitzen. Oh my goodness I don't even know how many there is supposed to be! I think I'm missing two or three haha!

7. What holiday traditions are you most looking forward to this year?

In recent years on Christmas Day we have visited our next door neighbours and played party games and drank ourselves into Boxing Day. I absolutely LOVE this tradition. Both of our families grew up together and now that we are all older it is so much fun to catch up and really finish off Christmas Day in full celebration. Of course this all happens after dinner and after we have all had the annual "food coma snooze". This is a relatively new tradition and I LOVE it! An old tradition is of course getting up early to make sure we have a full and long Christmas Day! Although this is getting trickier and trickier the older we all get haha!

8. Is your Christmas tree real or artificial?

Our family Christmas tree is actually artificial and I love it! It smells exactly the same every year we get it down from the attic and it just fills the whole house with the smell of Christmas. Although it is artificial it looks so real and fits perfectly into the room we have it in. I will be doing a BLOGMAS where I show you all my home decorations so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

9. What is your all time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?

Every year I get so excited for the whole of Christmas dinner but the best thing my dad does every year is creamed leeks. Some people turn their nose up when they hear that but it is to die for! And my favourite Christmas sweet treat has to be a mince pie. This is something they don't have our here in American but I really love warming them up and adding fresh cream on top! I'm sat at my computer drooling...

10. Be honest: Do you like receiving gifts or giving gifts better?

I think had you asked me this question from around the age of 5 - 17 I would have said receiving gifts without hesitation. However I honestly do love giving gifts and I am not just saying that to look the good guy! I love surprising my parents when I can, last year my sister and I bought our Mum a Tiffany necklace and it was completely a surprise for her to the point that she cried! Bless her! But honestly it was so great to be able to gift that to her!

11. What would be your dream place to visit during the festive season?

I would love to visit the Swiss Alps during the festive season. I have never ever been on a skiing holiday but the idea of being in a warm cabin with the snow outside is just a dream I think all of us have at Christmas. However I love going home at Christmas. Living here in New York I get the best of both worlds during the festive season, I get a festive December in the magical city and then I get to go home and be with family!

12. Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I like to think that I am actually somewhere in between! I'm one of those few people who actually enjoys wrapping presents. I think I get that talent from my Mum, however I don't think there is a particular method that I have apart from the sheer need to actually wrap the item!

13. What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I don't know what you're talking about...he's real. #believe #didyouwatchthepolarexpress?

14. Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you stick to them?

I don't really tend to make specific or particular goals I really just sort of aim to project where I would like to be the following year. In recent months I've found that specificity in you goals and dreams leads to ultimate success so this year I am really looking forward to reflecting on the amazing and crazy year I have had but also to put things in motion for the incredible year 2017 will be.

15. What makes the holidays special to you?

For me it is being surrounded by family and friends. I love just having a day at home, where the house smells of cooking and everyone is happy and playing games. I love that we all get to sit around a table and celebrate everything we have experience over the year and be thankful. I love that everyone puts down their phones a little bit more often and is really together, in the present. I love that we play silly board games! These simple things are all what makes Christmas very special and I am very fortunate to be surrounded by people who make it so.

I hope you enjoyed this Christmas Q&A and if you chose to answer the questions either in the comments or on your own social media platform please tag NevNYC as I would love to read your answers!! P.S I can't believe we're halfway through BLOGMAS!!

HAPPY BLOGMAS EVERYONE!
