2016 - 2017: Reflection & Projection

It's that time of year again! The time of year where we whack a big bow on top of, and say goodbye to the year behind us, and a big, warm hello to the year ahead! I for one absolutely love this time of year, almost as much as Christmas. I love that at this time of year we can readjust or remake yourself, you can set yourself a challenge and really celebrate the positives in the year behind. Last night my family and I celebrated the New Year by hosting a big party at our house and this year it was so much more special as Gino is currently staying with us here in, England. Don't worry there is a blog post with Gino's time here in the UK coming very soon. But for now what I want to do in this blogpost is reflect on 2016 within NevNYC and within my personal life as well as look forward to what 2017 is going to be!

Of course I couldn't look back on the year without being so thankful for this experience of being able to do NevNYC. I am absolutely loving doing the blog and really feel as time goes on I'm really finding my footing on what I'm writing about. The website itself hasn't come around on its own so I just want to say a huge thank you to Dan; for designing an amazing logo after weeks of me being picky, I love it! Amara; for being a source of camera equipment and pure positivity. I couldn't have shot half of the blogs without your kindness. Lucy; for being my blogs fairy godmother for advice and help. Meeting you in London for a bloggy day was nothing but amazing and a complete highlight of the year. Gino; for being my personal photographer without battering an eyelid, and for being so willing when I stropped about not getting the right shot! I couldn't be more thankful! And to everyone who continues to read the blogs, you are the reason I get to do this everyday and I thank you wholeheartedly!

FLORIDA: I have to say, spending my first ever Spring Break in Florida is most definitely a highlight. In my old apartment there was actually 12 of us living with each other and after kindly being invited by Cassy and her family, we all booked a vacation to her home in Florida!

Anyone who knows me knows I am an absolute Disney Nerd, therefore when the opportunity presented itself to go visit Disney World in Florida and Universal we most definitely took it! It was a vacation of complete fun and relaxation. Spring Break came right in the middle of a mental week at school so it was lovely to take a few days and go away. It definitely made for such a special memory with each and every one of us who went.

MASSACHUSETTS: This year I was fortunate to visit Massachusetts twice, both to visit Gino's family. Both trips made the perfect weekend get away and it was so nice to escape the city for a few day. Visiting twice meant I got to experience MA during the Summer and during the Fall, each making such unique experiences. One of my favourite spots to visit was Cambridge, around the Harvard Law School Campuses. I felt like Elle Woods in Legally Blonde every time we passed the grand gates or the beautiful historic buildings.

One of my absolute highlights of the trip was getting to go to my first baseball game with Gino, at Fenway Park with thanks to my Uncle Bob. It was actually really fun, for someone who really isn't into sports, watching a Red Sox vs. Yankee game at Fenway Park was something I will never forget.

If you have been reading NevNYC since I uploaded my first blog post back in May, you will have noticed that Gino is as much a part of the blog as New York or I am. It's funny, I was talking to him last night about 2016 and we were saying that although this year has seen so many negatives, across the globe, this year will always be a positive in our eyes, as it is the year we met. I cannot even put into one paragraph on a blog, how thankful I am for him, and how lucky I am to have him in my life. I am SO excited for our future and for everything that we have planned so far for 2017, it is safe to say there is going to be some amazing memories created this year!

One of the biggest things I am thankful for this year, is my complete new outlook on life. I feel I am no longer burrowed under the burden of a negative mindset. Many friends I am surrounded with have helped influence my new mindset and how I have even gotten through this year. Reading books such as "You're A Badass" and "The Secret" have just absolutely blown my mind in regards to the way in which I think. A lot of my blog content has been directed towards "positivity" which wasn't my initial intention with the blog. However reading your comments and hearing feedback has really shown that the "positive escape" feel of the blog is really what people love to read it for! Within this positivity area I really want to wish all of you an incredible New Year, and to really take the time to explore what it means to live in the positive. What it really means to cleanse your life of those unnecessary negative elements. For in that I believe you will find an untapped happiness that was inside you all along.

HELLO 2017

Well here we are. At the beginning of a New Year, and what lies ahead is nothing but opportunity. I wrote on my Facebook yesterday that around this time of year I see a lot of people knocking the "New Year, New Me" aspect and that it is idiotic and almost shallow to believe that we can truly make changes. Well to that I simply roll up my sleeves and feel even more excited that I don't in fact think like that. I look forward to this time of year and the opportunity to make changes and challenges. Last night after the clock struck 12 and we celebrated the New Year in I took myself away for 5 minutes and wrote a list of everything that WILL happen this year. I put it out there, in the open, in writing. I came up with a huuuuuuge list of things that are going to happen, saved it and went downstairs. Waking up this morning with..well yes, a banging head from all the partying, but with a sense of goals and objectives ahead of me, was actually quite exciting! The year ahead of me is not set in stone, yes I have some goals, but they can change. Having this list is so exciting and I feel like a painter with a blank canvas ahead. 2016 contained so many negative aspects, way too many to list, but I refuse to write it off as a bad year. It has been a learning curve and has done nothing but light a fire under me as we enter a fresh, new year.

I wish you all the happiest of New Years and I hope that in front of you lies adventure, love, passion, strength, memories and many many more. I hope that you have a wonderful year and find happiness in everything you do. And I hope to see you back here on NevNYC.com throughout the year for lots and lots of new and exciting content!

Why Do I Do This?

If there is anything I have learnt over the past two months blogging, is that it is so beneficial and rewarding to write out and post a blog. For a few years now I've watched certain aspects of social media fall into a cesspool of negativity, but I have always enjoyed seeking out blogs, YouTube channels and websites dedicated to utilizing social media in a positive manner.

Whilst training to be an actor we are constantly being told to be careful of our social media presence as it can come back and bite us in the A$$, but wouldn't it be great if this was universal worry? A question I ask myself regularly is, "is it worth it?". Is it worth putting that snarky comment out there, or biting at a negative statement or political comment on Facebook? Social media has so much power nowadays with which anyone can make or break their career or can express themselves in many many mediums. Lets use it to do GOOD!

Okay this got preachy very quickly, and probably doesn't make any sense but that was the whole point of this website and what I aim to do on social media. I'm so thankful that I get to have this experience here in New York City, but like anyone who moves away from home, it can be very difficult. Having a blog like this allows me to see the positives and document the amazing things I get to do here. It forces me to get up off of my A$$ and take it all in, and I LOVE that. It also connects me very closely to home. I feel like I'm talking to my friends and family directly through each post and for 10 - 15 minutes we can all have a little break from day-to-day stresses and enjoy the positives. In no way am I saying I'm an advocate for this, or that anyone uses NevNYC for this reason, but that is my intention.

For me, I love the documenting side of social media. At any point I can look back at a photo or a blog post, or a video from years ago and remember that exact moment. I love that aspect, and as I go forward on this journey I love being able to look back, even two months ago to my first post and watch my writing style change, the content change and the development of the website itself as well as my life here in the States. The reason I'm writing this post today is because have been curious as to the pros and cons of blogging. I wanted to post about the fact that it can be difficult at times to always try and find the positives to post about when the week or day in my life that I'm writing a post, isn't particularly positive. Its times like this I turn to my favorite bloggers and YouTubers for inspiration, motivation and to just read someone else's experiences and realise that this sh*tty day. WILL. PASS. If one day, me or my website can act as the same kind of resource, then I am happy. THAT is why I do this.

I hope you're all having a WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY!
